WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT ARC-Ex?
The Matt Hampson Foundation is delighted to host a new programme to test ARC‑EX spinal cord stimulation in real‑world settings. Read on to find out more about this pioneering treatment.
The ARC-EX system is the first dedicated treatment for spinal cord injury approved by UK regulators. It uses electrodes placed on the back of the neck to deliver gentle stimulation to the spinal cord which activates nerve pathways.
When combined with activity-based therapy, clinical trials show it can improve:
- Arm and hand strength
- Sensation
- Independence in everyday activities including dressing, eating and self-care
Turning progress into real-world impact
The Spinal Research charity has supported the ARC-EX system from the beginning. Now, through the Spinal Research Recovery Alliance, the next step is testing its impact in routine care, with the Matt Hampson Foundation chosen as a pioneering centre.
Through this programme, Spinal Research will provide training and support to its chosen rehabilitation centres while gathering data and feedback over a 12-month period. These insights will be vital in shaping future research, delivery and access to this technology.
ARC‑EX spinal cord stimulation in real-world settings
The Foundation’s Get Busy Living Centre in Leicestershire which supports young people following life-changing injury is the first venue to join the programme. The Foundation’s physiotherapy team has been trained to deliver ARC‑EX alongside function‑based therapy for beneficiaries with a range of spinal cord injuries.
