TWELVETREES TARGETS FUNDRAISING LAP AROUND RUGBY VENUES
Former rugby international Billy Twelvetrees is getting back on his bike to tackle a mammoth 350 miles in 24 hours in aid of causes including 4Ed, Motor Neurone Disease charities and Matt Hampson Foundation.
Billy’s challenge is the latest version of the 4Ed Cycle which began in 2022 following former team-mate Ed Slater’s diagnosis with MND. That summer, Billy joined Ed and a group of former players and friends including Fraser Balmain, Jim Hamilton, Lewis Ludlow and Charlie Sharples as they rode 350 miles in three days.
The 2024 version is called ‘Ride Against Time’ with a similar target over the course of just one day, symbolising the urgency to find a cure for those living with MND.
Billy, who played in the Premiership with Leicester Tigers and Gloucester before a final season with Ealing Trailfinders, will be joined by members of that original group of riders for sections along the way as he rides from Gloucester’s Kingsholm stadium – starting at 8.00am on Monday 19th August – to the home of Leicester Tigers at Mattioli Woods Welford Road, then on to Twickenham via Milton Keynes RFC where Ed began his playing career, and back to Gloucester, all in one full day.
All funds raised from the gruelling challenge will be split between 4Ed, the Motor Neurone Disease Association, My Name’5 Doddie Foundation and the Matt Hampson Foundation which also hosts an MND programme at its Get Busy Living Centre in Leicestershire.
MND has no cure and no treatment. Time is of the essence. Support Billy and the riders as they aim to make every second count, racing against the clock to complete the 350 miles, and make a difference to those living with MND.
