TOP MARKS FOR SWIM SUPPORT

Two teachers have completed a coastal sponsored swim in Northern Ireland after seeing the impact of the Matt Hampson Foundation’s work with a student.

Stephen McConnell and Paul Elliker, from Limavady High School, were inspired to take on the swimming challenge between Portstewart and Portrush on the northern-most coast of the island by the Foundation’s links with Brooke Canning since life-changing injury.

The Matt Hampson Foundation provides physical and emotional support for young people following life-changing injury in sport, based at its Get Busy Living Centre near Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire and created by former England Under-21 rugby international Matt who experienced his own serious injury in 2005.

Stephen explained the link with the Foundation through beneficiary Brooke who experienced life-changing injury three years ago, writing on his JustGiving page: “Brooke has travelled to access this incredible care and it has made a real difference in her journey.

“Our goal is to raise £20,000 so the Foundation can continue changing lives like Brooke’s.

“Every donation – big or small – will help someone come to terms with a life-changing injury, rebuild their strength and reclaim their future.”

Brooke was there to welcome them at the finish with the swimmers covering the 4.5km distance in a time under one-and-a-half hours.
