TEAM SUPPORTS ATLANTIC ROWERS
The team at the Matt Hampson Foundation committed to their own challenge in support of participants in the Toughest Row across the Atlantic.
The 3,000-mile Toughest Row between the Canary Islands and Antigua in the Caribbean began in mid-December with two of this year’s crews helping to raise funds for the Foundation’s work with young people following life-changing in sport.
Their four-man crews have been covering up to 90 miles per day rowing in pairs, two hours on and two hours off 24 hours day for the last five weeks and are now on their home stretch.
Staying on dry land and using a pair of rowing machines at the charity’s Get Busy Living Centre near Melton Mowbray, Foundation beneficiaries and staff managed to cover 148km during the working day – though without the added challenges of accumulated fatigue, sleep deprivation, equipment issues, navigation and ocean wildlife the crews have experienced!
Foundation trustee Julian Evans is in the four-man Seaslife boat which had under 120 miles remaining to their destination by the start of this week as colleagues back at the Get Busy Living Centre took on their challenge.
Fellow long-term supporters Greg and Elliot Collins are on board the Get Busy Rowing boat and have around 700 miles ahead of them before reaching Antigua.
