SURF AND TURF CENTURY

Foundation physiotherapist Tilly and husband Mike completed a 100-mile fundraising ‘Surf and Turf Challenge during August Bank Holiday weekend.

Tilly swam the distance of the English Channel over three days in the lake at Colwick Park, Nottingham, while Mike ran three successive marathons in laps around its perimeter with all sponsorship going towards the Foundation’s work in supporting young people seriously injured through sport.

“People have been really generous with their support,” said Tilly who works with beneficiaries at the Foundation’s Get Busy Living Centre at Burrough-on-the-Hill.

“We had great support from the team at Colwick Park, from colleagues at the Foundation and from family and friends. Various beneficiaries came to see us as a surprise which was amazing too.

“Once we got started on the first day, it was just a case of keeping going. The painful bit was not moving between the moving bits! But it was more general fatigue than any pain.”

Tilly created the challenge after a proposed Channel swim relay fell through and, having already started the training, she still wanted to carry on to benefit the Foundation, and Mike got on board by running three marathons to total 100 miles covered on land and water.

“I see the work the Foundation does every day and I wanted to do something because the support to get people through life-changing injuries is so important,” Tilly said.
