STRONG SHOW AT THE ADAPTIVE GAMES IN TEXAS FOR FOUNDATION DUO

It was a proud weekend for the Matt Hampson Foundation with two representatives in a competition in Texas to find the world’s fittest adaptive athlete.

Sophie Wilson and Henry Dunn successfully came through qualifying events in the UK to earn a place in the final stages of the global Adaptive CrossFit Games.

Hosted in the Texas city of San Antonio, the Adaptive Crossfit Games By Wheelwod ran over four days, testing 300 competitors from all over the world in a series of workouts in a format designed to provide fair competition for all categories of entrant.

Staff and beneficiaries from the Foundation followed the livestream coverage at the Get Busy Living Centre near Melton Mowbray as Sophie and Henry faced a programme which included weightlifting, ski machine, rowing and pull-ups in the search for a winner of the title ’Fittest on Earth’.

Sophie, who only entered her first crossfit event last summer, made the trip to the USA with support from Barratt Developments, the country’s largest housebuilder and long-time friends of the Matt Hampson Foundation.

After an intense competition, she finished in second place in the global challenge, behind American winner Anneliese Williams.

Henry qualified in the world top 10 and headed to Texas with support from K2, a global mobility relocation and professional services provider who have also worked closely with the Foundation.

He had a highest placing of third in one discipline – two places ahead of eventual category winner Josue Maldonado of the USA – on his way to finishing sixth overall.
