SO MANY LANDMARKS IN WILL’S WINNING YEAR

It has been quite a year for beneficiary Will Ruane, capped off with receipt of the Matt Hampson Foundation’s Get Busy Living Award for 2023.

The award is presented annually to a ‘go-getter’ who has changed their life after injury, someone who wants to better themselves and their situation, and truly encompasses what the Foundation is all about.

Will has achieved so much since his injury, has returned to a career he loves in the glass manufacturing business, moved into his own flat, tried almost every sport available to him alongside Foundation colleagues and this year joined the GB climbing team to pursue para-climbing as a sport.

Described as “grabbing life with both hands,” Will has also shown support for other Foundation beneficiaries as well as pursuing his own journey.

Foundation chief executive Tommy Cawston, revealing the winner of the award, said: “You look at how people have moved forward in their lives over the last 18 months, a lot of that will be down to Will’s influence.

“The adversity he has faced and the life he is living now – what a message. He is a special bloke.”
