ROWERS KEEP GOING THROUGH 24 HOURS IN GET BUSY LIVING CENTRE CHALLENGE
Beneficiaries and staff joined a trio of Atlantic rowers in a 24-hour rowing marathon at the Matt Hampson Foundation’s Get Busy Living Centre.
Greg and Elliot Collins and Will Towning, who are preparing for The Toughest Row covering 3,000 miles of the Atlantic later in the year, staged their marathon at the Centre as part of their training and their fundraising.
Starting at noon on Friday, the trio continued through the night and on to noon the following day, with staff and beneficiaries adding support as well as contributing to their total mileage.
Greg, who is a long-term Foundation supporter despite being based in the United States for the last 25 years, said: “It seems extreme to do a 24-hour rowing marathon, but we are going to have to do this every day for six weeks for real in December!
“None of us has rowed an ocean before and this was a bit of a sanity call for us with our training as well as helping towards our fundraising.”
The Toughest Row starts at La Gomera in the Canary Islands and finishes in Antigua in the Caribbean, starting on 12th December, with teams challenged by ocean and weather conditions, fatigue and sleep deprivation over more than a month at sea.
Greg and Elliot have a their fundraising page here if you would like to show your support.
The Matt Hampson Foundation provides physical and emotional support for young people following life-changing injury in sport, based at the Get Busy Living Centre in Leicestershire.
As 2025 marks 20 years since Matt’s accident while training with the England Under-21 rugby squad, he has big plans to extend the Centre to support more beneficiaries and their families as well as developing regional satellite hubs to take support even further.
