RIDE OUT TO FOUNDATION’S HOME FOR GET BUSY CYCLING DAY

The Matt Hampson Foundation is hosting its second annual Get Busy Cycling Day on Saturday 14th September when riders of all ages and abilities will be welcomed at its headquarters at Burrough-on-the-Hill, near Melton Mowbray to learn more and grab some refreshments.

The Foundation supports and inspires young people seriously injured through sport, and includes cyclists and triathletes among its beneficiaries.

As a rugby player with Leicester Tigers and England Under-20s, Matt Hampson experienced a life-changing injury in 2005 which left him paralysed from the neck down and breathing via a ventilator but, rather than lament what he’d lost, he instead decided to focus on the things he could still do and to ‘get busy living’.

He created the Foundation and opened its unique Get Busy Living Centre at Burrough-on-the-Hill to provide expert physiotherapy, specialist personal training, rehabilitation and wellbeing services, mentoring and advice to help people after life-changing injury.

As part of this community, beneficiaries are able to draw on the experiences and knowledge of people who have been on the same journey, developing the tools and skills they need to move on as they start to rebuild their lives or plan a return to employment, education or sport. The Centre also has a strong and active social scene, and eventually beneficiaries are also able to provide support to others.

Matt was awarded an OBE in 2021 for his incredible achievements.

Join us for Get Busy Cycling Day – if you are out for a social spin with friends, joining a group event, building your training mileage or just looking for some mid-ride refreshments alongside other cyclists, there is a welcome waiting for all sporting and recreational riders at the Get Busy Living Centre on Saturday 14th September (10.00am-3.00pm).

All ascents of Burrough Hill will count towards the day’s Everest Challenge and there will be a chance to win a Get Busy Living cycling shirt.

Call in for coffee and cake, or car-parking is available on site if you would prefer to ride out from the Centre. There are local routes over 20, 40 and 75 miles available to download if you’re looking for some inspiration.

This is the perfect opportunity in an informal setting to find out more about the Foundation’s work in a young person’s recovery journey following life-changing injury.
