SPORTING LEGEND McCOY ON THE LINE IN LONDON

Legendary jockey Sir AP McCoy will be supporting the Matt Hampson Foundation when he runs his first-ever marathon in London next year.

The 20-time Champion Jockey made his announcement exclusively for BBC cameras on a visit to the Foundation’s Get Busy Living Centre this week.

Knighted in 2016 following his retirement from racing, Sir Tony has built links with Matt and his Foundation through beneficiary Graham Lee who is a long-time friend and fellow Grand National winner.

“I have had no intention or desire to do a marathon,” he said, “but I know what Matt Hampson has done for Graham and a lot of other people.”

The Foundation provides physical and emotional support for young people following life-changing injury in sport, inspired by Matt and his own experience as a young rugby player when he was paralysed from the neck down and breathing via a ventilator.

Matt is also participating in the London Marathon in 2026 with a team of support runners and the aim of raising £100,000 for his foundation.

His support team for the 26-mile distance includes Foundation personal trainer James ‘Sutty’ Sutliff and long-time friends Paul Cowling, Amy Bishop and Carl Brierley-Lewis.

Matt’s fundraising page is open here.
