GET BUSY LIVING CENTRE PROGRESS REPORT

The extension to the Get Busy Living Centre is starting to take shape and we can now see progress on the build on a daily basis.

The Matt Hampson Foundation’s home at Burrough-on-the-Hill near Melton Mowbray officially opened in 2018 to provide physical and emotional support to young people and their families following life-changing injury in sport. Now those facilities are being extended so Team Hambo can welcome even more beneficiaries.

With preparation and groundworks completed, the concrete structures for the extension are now well on their way, providing an outline of the new space.

“We’ve already outgrown what we built originally so it is great to get started on the extension,” said Matt Hampson. “We know the extra space will make a big difference for the team and our beneficiaries.”

There is a big team effort behind the build, led by

  • Construction partners Rockwell
  • Willmott Dixon and Nick Preedy who project-managed the original building

They are working alongside

  • Derry Building Services
  • L Reynolds providing MEP and dry lining support
  • Architects TP Bennett
  • Ruth Campbell & Co
  • Cundall Fire Ltd
  • Safer Sphere
  • Salus
  • Indigo Fitness
  • Burrough Court Estate

On completion, the new space will provide more gym and physio room and a new social area.

“We have been talking about the extension project for a while, so it is great to be able to see progress,” said Foundation CEO Tommy Cawston.

“It is also rewarding to see multiple partners involved, all doing their best to bring it together. Many of them were also involved in the original build and we’re extremely thankful for their longstanding support.”

Without any direct central or institutional funding, the Foundation needs to raise more than £1.7million per year to support its beneficiaries who come from all sporting activity and at all levels as they adapt to new circumstances or prepare for a return to work, study or sport and ‘get busy living’ again after injury. The team also runs an MND programme for people keen to remain active after diagnosis.
