HAMBO THROWDOWN COMPETITIVE FITNESS
The Hambo Throwdown fitness competition organised by the Matt Hampson Foundation has made a successful return at a new home at Loughborough University.
The Foundation’s inaugural Throwdown was organised in 2024 as the first adaptive fitness event exclusively for wheelchair users in the UK and has now welcomed more than 50 athletes in its opening two editions.
Loughborough University’s Powerbase gym hosted the competition this year with the event divided into five seated divisions – up from four in 2024 – taking on three fitness challenges during the day.
George Thompson, the Foundation’s sports therapist and head of athlete development as well as main organiser of the event, said: “We brought together a huge range of competitors from seasoned veterans of the UK fitness space to first-timers. The day never fails to humble and amaze me.”
