GEORGE RECOGNISED IN POWER 100

Actor and beneficiary George Robinson has been named in the Disability Power 100 for 2023 in recognition of his influential work in front of the camera.

The Disability Power 100 is organised by the Shaw Trust and recognises the most influential disabled people in the UK, celebrating their ambition and achievements while also providing encouragement to others for the future.

The Shaw Trust Foundation, which aims to address the disability employment gap, reports that one in five of the working-age population is disabled, with more than 75% acquiring their disability or health condition as adults.

Matt Hampson Foundation beneficiary George was recognised in the Entertainment section as the awards were announced in an event at Wembley.

After a spinal cord injury playing rugby at the age of 17, George completed his ‘A’ Levels and started acting while at university which led to auditions and casting in the Netflix show ‘Sex Education’.

“Since being cast, I am constantly told about how influential and groundbreaking the character of Isaac is in such a popular show: representing a demographic of society in a way that is rarely shown in popular culture,” he said.

“Isaac is witty, charming, playfully antagonistic and altogether unapologetic about his disability. This seems to have been something that has resonated with viewers.”

TV presenter, campaigner and businesswoman Shani Dhanda took the top spot in the Disability Power 100 2023 event hosted by Alex Brooker of ‘The Last Leg’ who is a previous winner.

Chair of judges Andrew Miller MBE said: “The Disability Power 100 not only recognises difference, perseverance and hard work, the list also celebrates the positive benefits that diversity and greater equality bring.”
