GEORGE BACK IN COMPETITIVE TRIATHLON
Double Paralympic medallist George Peasgood has completed his first triathlon since an accident in 2022.
As a two-time cycling world time trial champion as well as making two appearances on the Paralympic podium in the triathlon, George’s competitive career was stalled by serious injury three years ago. But the Matt Hampson Foundation beneficiary returned to action with a seventh-place finish in his category at a World Triathlon Para Cup event in Turkey.
“I knew I would be a bit dis-satisfied with the result, but I am also happy to just actually get to compete,” he said on Instagram afterwards.
“Thank you to everyone who believed and had hope in my dream to be back on the blue carpet.”
George clocked a total time of 1hr 13min 45sec for the event, including the third-best time in the cycling section on a course which featured a 750m swim, 18.75km cycle and 4.5km run.
Governing body British Triathlon was among the social media accounts to celebrate his return, posting: “Defying the odds time and time again.”
