GAMES GOLD MEDALLIST JOINS AS FOUNDATION AMBASSADOR

The Matt Hampson Foundation is delighted to welcome Paralympian gold medallist Kylie Grimes MBE as an ambassador.

Kylie made history in 2021 as the first woman to be part of a winning wheelchair rugby squad at the Paralympic Games and was appointed an MBE the following year in recognition of services to the sport.

That was after her third Games, having played in Team GB’s fifth-placed wheelchair rugby squad at London in 2012 then switching to athletics in Rio before returning to team sport to strike gold in 2021.

Kylie also competed in the athletics World Championships in Doha in 2015 and London two years later, and won European Championship gold with Britain’s wheelchair rugby team among other achievements, showing that a life-changing spinal injury is no barrier to sporting ambition.

“My experiences since my injury – and particularly my journey back to sport, teamwork and a strong relationship with my body – have helped me to overcome many obstacles,” says Kylie who now shares many of the lessons learned to help motivate and inspire others.

“It’s so important for those with life-changing injuries to know that life goes on, and so can they.

“I feel honoured to represent the Matt Hampson Foundation as an ambassador.”

Matt Hampson OBE said: “Kylie is a good friend of ours at the Foundation and she is a role model to so many young people, not just for her amazing achievements in sport but also in how she wants to help others. I’m delighted that she has agreed to join us as an ambassador.”

The Matt Hampson Foundation provides support and inspiration for young people seriously injured through sporting activity. From its base at the Get Busy Living Centre in Leicestershire, the Foundation provides expert physiotherapy, specialist personal training, wellbeing advice and support to people after life-changing injury, helping them to rebuild their lives and to ‘get busy living’.
