FOUNDATION CELEBRATES WITH ANNUAL AWARD WINNERS

Supporters of the Foundation gathered to celebrate another big year at the second Get Busy Living Awards.

Kindly supported by Furniture Village and hosted at Mattioli Woods Welford Road, home of the Leicester Tigers, the event was attended by 200 guests.

“It’s great to have everybody in the same room to celebrate amazing achievements of our beneficiaries, staff and everyone involved with the Foundation this year,” Matt said.

“We are lucky to have a really special group of people involved with the Foundation and I’m amazed daily by how our community comes together to support one another through the ups and downs of their journeys to recovery. It makes me so incredibly proud.”

2023 Get Busy Living Awards winners:

Stand-Out Dedication Award – Geraldine Burdett

For someone who has dedicated themselves to fulfilling their goals and optimising their recovery, both physically and mentally. Gez joined the Foundation in 2022 and has become a very popular member of the community. She has faced hurdle after hurdle in her recovery, but soldiers on and continues to push herself to meet her goals and potential. We’re very proud of all she has achieved.

Above and Beyond Award – Alison Short

Awarded to someone who goes out of their way to support the Foundation, raising awareness and doing what they can to help. Alison, a beneficiary, completes physical challenge after physical challenge to support the Foundation and her peers. Always ready for a chat, Alison is a real asset to the Get Busy Living community.

Beneficiaries’ Beneficiary (Henry Love Award) – Taylor Gough

In a category voted for by the beneficiaries, Taylor received this award as someone who wants to support others, is a great team member, makes an impression on the lives of others and is a great role model. Taylor is a very different individual to the one that first came to the Foundation in 2020. He has picked himself up, got busy living and then helped others to do the same. He can often be found chatting to his peers and making someone laugh.

Craig Barker Sport Award – Olli Ingram

Olli received this award as someone who epitomises the spirit of the Foundation and our good friend Craig who kept going in the face of adversity, no matter what life threw at him. Olli has an infectious enthusiasm for life and always a smile on his face. He’s integrated into the Foundation community incredibly well and has thrown himself into getting busy living, walking unassisted in the gym and beginning to pursue a career in golf thanks to the opportunities the Foundation has created.

Get Busy Living Award – Will Ruane

Will earned this award as a ‘go-getter’ who has changed their life after injury, someone who wants to better themselves and their situation, and truly encompasses what the Foundation is all about – he lives by the mantra of ‘get busy living’. Will has achieved so much since his injury, he has returned to a career that he loves, moved into his own flat, tried almost every sport available to him and earlier this year joined the GB climbing team to pursue para-climbing as a sport. Every day he gets busy living and he’s proof there’s nothing you can’t do if you put your mind to it.
