FINALISTS IN REBUILDING LIVES AWARDS
The Spinal Injuries Association has shortlisted the Matt Hampson Foundation in two categories of its annual awards.
Alongside a nomination in the Outstanding Team of the Year section, Foundation staff member Sophie Wilson has been shortlisted for the Rising Star Award.
The SIA’s Rebuilding Lives Awards recognise the outstanding achievements of individuals and groups in the spinal cord injury community who inspire others through their work, volunteering, services, support or raising awareness.
The Matt Hampson Foundation, which supports young people following life-changing injury in sport, is among three finalists for the SIA award which is presented to a team that has made a significant difference to spinal injury care, treatment or the lives of injured people in a clinical setting, legal or support services, or at another other setting.
The charity was created by Matt Hampson after experiencing his own life-changing injury as a young professional rugby player and is extending facilities at its Get Busy Living Centre in Leicestershire this year to provide physical and emotional support for even more injured young people as well as their family and friends.
The Rising Star award recognises those who have ‘gone above and beyond in their role in a specialist SCI setting’.
From a first contact with the Foundation as a beneficiary following her own injury, Sophie joined the team as Head of Peer Support and now as Head of Operations while also representing the team at external events and competing at international level in adaptive fitness.
Winners will be announced at the Rebuilding Lives Awards on 1st October.
