DREW TAKES ON A GREAT CHALLENGE
Former athlete Drew Graham fulfilled an ambition by taking part in the Great North Run while raising funds for two chosen charities.
Drew was an elite middle-distance runner at university in the United States, where he won collegiate titles and competed in the Olympic trials, before suffering a life-changing spinal cord injury in a diving accident during 2014. After rehabilitation in Colorado, he could not find suitable facilities when he returned home to the North-East of England and created the Pop-Up Gym as a charity and accessible facility to help other wheelchair users and people with mobility issues to rehabilitate and to improve their mental and physical health.
The charity, now known as Gym Possible, has its own accessible premises open seven days a week in Newcastle and has forged close links with Matt since Drew’s first visit to the Get Busy Living Centre.
Drew was joined by a team of runners from Gym Possible on the start-line for the Tyneside half-marathon with the goal of raising funds to support their work and also the Foundation.
