DREW SETS TEAM A NEW TIME TARGET FOR GREAT NORTH RUN
Drew Graham has set a sub-two-hour target for a team of supporters at this year’s Great North Run as part of fundraising efforts for the Matt Hampson Foundation and its northern hub.
A middle-distance athlete before a spinal injury in 2014, Drew created Gym Possible as an accessible gym in the North-East and moved to new premises at Gateshead Leisure Centre this summer.
A team of supporters completed the Great North Run in 2023, pushing Drew around the Tyneside course just one minute outside the two-hour barrier, and they will be back for more at the North-East half-marathon on 8th September.
On his JustGiving page, Drew said: “I always wanted to do the Great North Run but never got round to it, always thinking it would be something I would do later. Unfortunately, due to my accident, I had come to accept that that dream was dead.
“That was up until last year when a group of my old running friends agreed to push me around the course. It was an amazing day and we ended up raising over £11,000 for the Matt Hampson foundation and Gym Possible.
“We are back this year and aim to smash the two-hour barrier and hope to raise a lot of money in the process to fund Gym Possible’s continued operations.”
Drew will be taking on an extra physical challenge before the Great North Run as part of his fundraising by doing a half-marathon distance on the Skierg machine at Gym Possible, estimating a time of around five hours.
“My vision for Gym Possible has always been to give accessibility to as many people as possible and this new site allows is to do that,” said Drew.
