BENEFICIARIES RISE TO ALPINE CHALLENGE
Beneficiaries of the Matt Hampson Foundation were part of the teams that climbed the equivalent height of Mount Everest during a two-day CHX Challenge in the French Alps.
Based in Chamonix, in the shadows of Mont Blanc, four teams represented sponsors GRS Group, long-time friends from Our Legend UK and two groups from the Foundation which included four beneficiaries of the charity which supports young people following life-changing injury.
Over the course of two days and working closely with local guides, the teams plotted their routes to find who could go furthest, highest and fastest in a Meet Your Mountain challenge.
Starting from the valley floor and heading up via forest trails towards the snowy peaks, the hikers’ adventures featured glaciers, waterfalls, a barefoot river crossing and incredible views across the mountains and down to the towns and villages below.
They totalled 8,900 metres of elevation in their endeavours – Everest’s peak is at 8,849 metres – while hiking nearly 150 kilometres (averaging more than 18km per day on testing terrain) and also raising valuable funds for the Foundation’s work in changing young lives.
Our beneficiaries did us proud, going further and higher than they ever thought possible. Well done to all!
